URGENCY (2022)

As the initial work in an ongoing collaborative process, spiritualist, artist and self-taught clown, Sasha Deryabina (Turkmenistan, 2000), and Andrew VW invoke ‘Urgency’ as both motivation and enemy in a 24-hour unauthorized public performance in Arnhem’s Sonsbeek Park.

URGENCY manifested as a ritual space in which the artists sought to lure and capture the spirit of existential dread, dressed as those seemingly most susceptible to possession – businessmen. The performance was documented every hour on the hour through digital video and analogue and had a consistent audience of dog walkers, hikers and police officers. Ending in a ‘company picnic’, locals, family and friends were invited into the completed space which, in an unexpected outcome, was free of any sense or need for haste.
